4 Questions To Help You Find The Right Mattress

LifeStyle

Twin, full, king, or queen? Spring, latex or memory foam? These are just a few features that you have to consider when choosing a brand new mattress. With all the options available today, it is really quite difficult to pick out one. To make your decision easier, here are some factors to consider when buying a mattress.

1. Who’s Going to Use the Mattress?

Are you buying a mattress for yourself, you and your partner, a child, or your elderly mother? You have to choose depending on the needs of the person who’s going to use it. It would be easier to get one for yourself because you know what your preferences are. But when you’re buying a bed for someone else, you also have to think about their needs. For instance, if your partner experiences occasional back pain, then you ought to factor in that element when choosing a mattress. If you are getting a mattress for a child, there’s another set of considerations. You have to think if the mattress is suitable for a kid who has allergies, or see to it that the bed helps prevent dust mites to avoid exacerbating the lung or health conditions of a hypersensitive child.

2. Why Do You Need a New Mattress?

It’s important to mull over why you are shopping for a new bed because it will allow you to focus better on your needs. A lot of people just want to replace the old and worn out beds that they have, but some have more essential or urgent reasons. There are individuals who require certain kinds of mattresses in order for them to sleep better. Then, there are others who might need new beds because their old ones have become infested with bed bugs or dust mites. When the reason for buying a mattress is because of a pest problem, then this issue must be resolved first before purchasing a bed and putting it in a place where it will be easily infested by the same bugs that spoiled the old one.

3. How Firm Do You Want Your Mattress to be?

Though people often consider “soft” to be a good idea, the thing is that sleeping in an overly squishy bed can make certain conditions worse, or it can be quite uncomfortable. This is because very soft beds do not offer adequate support, which is why you might have observed feeling some muscle aches and pains after spending the night on an especially fluffy bed. Getting a very firm bed is not a good idea too. If the bed is too compact or hard, it will press on your joints or pressure points, particularly the elbows, back or hips. The best option, therefore, is a mattress that’s not too spongy and not too hard – something that’s just right.

4. Do You Have a Preference for a Certain Type of Mattress?

Before you go out and shop, decide on what kind of mattress seems right for you. Consider these three general classifications – memory foam, latex, or innerspring. You can even consider the waterbed if that seems attractive to you. Learn about their benefits. Memory foam and latex mattresses, for instance, offer comfort and durability. Plus, these are great for people with allergies or asthma. But these can get too hot to sleep on because of their density. Then, there’s the innerspring mattress, which promotes ventilation. However, because of its hollow core, spring mattresses are more attractive to dust mites and bed bugs because the creatures can thrive in the inner void.
